Clarence returned to the office late morning, having been to the Peak Bay Yacht Club checking surveillance footage for the night of Joseph’s murder. Had Dallas Austin been there until 2 a.m. as he claimed?

“How did you get on?” Sally asked.

“I have a guest list and a staff list for that night.” He held up a flash drive. “And the club’s surveillance footage too.”

“That’ll keep you busy. Apart from the main door, how many other exits are there?”

“Kitchen and a fire door.”

“Ask the kitchen staff if they saw Dallas Austin step outside.”

Clarence nodded. “What happened with Niall Pickerd?”

Sally filled him in. “His DNA swab and fingerprints are on the way to the lab. And Dr. Mani called. It’s not good news regarding the fingernail from the bathroom. So far, she has no DNA match on the database.”

“Maybe it’ll turn out to be Pickerd’s DNA?” Clarence suggested.

“Maybe. I’m going to have another chat with Carlos. If he knew of his wife’s affair, he had motive to kill her.”
